City

Story Behind the Image: 6

This image was something I had thought about before. Never thinking about ever having the opportunity to take this photograph though. The idea came back when I was catching up with a friend when he started sharing about his flight experience in a Cessna C170B. Of course this conversation sparked my interest and I had to ask for a trip around downtown Pittsburgh. So then we started planning, he created a flight plan and I started researching angles I could possibly get from 3,000ft within the sky. This photograph however was the main one I wanted to capture throughout the whole flight. So when we went past Point State Park and the rest of downtown, the plane roll was a perfect spot to be able to capture the wing and the city within one frame from the window. The reflection on the wing was completely unexpected but brought another amazing detail to this frame.

I went about taking this photograph as how I would any take any photograph, figure out exposure, make any more adjustments and make sure I’m getting clear photographs through any possible obstacles such as the window I shot through for this frame. Once I have all of that figured out I just buckled down and started photographing as much as I could as we were moving pretty quickly around the downtown area. Being comfortable while taking photographs is not a must but it sure helps, with my fear of heights it took me some time to get over being suspended in air with mild turbulence, but after 20min or so I was comfortable with the discomfort and was able to capture some of my personal favorite images and perspectives I’ve been able to capture of downtown Pittsburgh.

I hope you enjoyed this blog and I look forward to sharing another photographic story, of course ask any questions you may think of and I’ll be sure to get back to you! Thank you for taking the time to read about this Pittsburgh aerial photograph!

Photoshop "Dreamscapes"

Photoshop has been a love and hate relationship for me since I jumped into the program. Sometimes it does what I want to do and sometimes I wonder how wrong could it actually get. This beautiful program has made so many things easier to do and broadened the road for more creative pieces. The multi-use program has been helpful to me in many different situations and shoots. From photoshopping small details out to compositing images like this, or repairing a subject. Photoshops many great uses have benefited and broadened art.

These images below were all crafted with images I took personally. They are from many different locations such as Yosemite National Park, Iceland, Grand Teton National Park, etc. These locations are all special to me, along with the beautifulness each spot holds. In total I spent about 40 hours creating this group of work.

New York City

I had never experienced New York City on a sunny day in any of the times I’ve been there. So I made it one of my goals this year to capture the city in all of it’s glory in early Fall and finally capture a sunny day. I was able to accomplish this goal out of the weather giving me all the luck. Can’t wait to go back and capture more in New York, New York.

The trip started out with what looked to be a busted sunset. But I lucked out and was able to capture this beautiful red sunset from the Top of the Rock. The next day was a cloudy morning. So I went to the Oculus to capture the beautiful white architecture throughout the train station. After that the clouds cleared up and I was able to capture a beautiful sunset. Then on the last day I was able to capture a gorgeous Golden Hour after a cloudy Sunrise in DUMBO. After I went to Grand Central Station to finally capture the classic shot of the amazing golden Terminal. Then I ventured to Central Park to photograph the beginning fall colors around the Bow Bridge.

Let me know what you think about these photos in the comments or any questions you have about my travels!

Cross Country

My Cross Country road trip was full of experience and amazing adventures. There are so many destinations I was able to set foot on and see for the first time and hopefully not the last. My favorite location is always Yosemite National Park or San Francisco, but I've been to both before. After this trip I think Joshua Tree was one of my favorite National Parks; the peacefulness just stuck out to me and the temperature was a perfect 100 (in May). Things I saw went from a huge slug, to a black bear. Or these amazing tree landscapes and then to see the red rock mountains of the South West. The uniqueness of the United States is impeccable with the different ecosystems and stories each place told. Here are some of my favorite images from this journey!

Image: One Man Band
Where: Venice, Italy
Year: 2017
Camera: D750, 24-70 f2.8

This image sticks out a lot to me when I look back on my trip to Italy. I was walking through the alley ways of Venice looking for street photography and anything to capture. I stepped away into an alley to relax for a minute and just look around. When, all of a sudden this man the "One Man Band" came strolling through the street in the middle of the day playing his heart out. The difference about this man than past street performers was that he was traveling around rather than staying in one spot. While pushing and pulling the accordion, his heels jingling, his back holding a drum that would keep a beat and cymbals also. And to top his performance off he was wearing a funnel-hat with bells and a strap. When hearing this character come down the street I knew exactly what I needed to do. I analyzed the situation and when he would make it down the street to where I was waiting. A few other photographers presences seemed to make the "One Man Band" shy away but he kept playing. Waiting a few moments till he was directly in a path with no one in his way I walked over and stood right in front of him and snapped a few quick pictures before giving some euros into his box. Normally I don't get in front of people and obstruct the natural happenings of the situation. This image however brought that out of me and I got the shot I envisioned in my head upon arrival of this "One Man Band".

Pittsburgh's Beauty

Pittsburgh in my opinion is one of the most photogenic cities. Being able to live near Pittsburgh gives me the opportunity to continually capture images of the beautiful sights around. The different architecture and the perfect horizons for sunrise and sunsets give Pittsburgh a whole different dynamic. This blog post will be updated with new photos every so often with Pittsburgh sights! So make sure to keep checking back to see new things that are being captured and uploaded.

Italy

A country full of culture, history, great food, and beautiful view points of it's cities. Venice, Florence, Siena, and Rome are the cities I was able to visit on this trip to Europe. Having going to Europe my first time I was quickly amazed by the 1,000s + years of history and architecture. My favorite destination was probably Venice for how easy to get around and the culture of no cars. The city was very small and relaxing. Florence was my second favorite, it was a good in-between of cars and walking/biking.

Going to Italy was sure a life experience that I will never forgot and these images will motivated me to continue pushing for my dreams and aspirations.

New York City

New York City has always been a city I get really excited to go explore. The overall atmosphere and the opportunity of photos is truly amazing. This particular trip I moved around a lot, totaling 13 miles walking. The adventure began in Chinatown, and then continued on through Soho, Little Italy, Times Square, Empire State Building, The Flatiron Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and Brooklyn Bridge Park. The photos I captured on this trip I feel show my determination to find photos and capture them no matter how far away.

New York City is a beautiful city and I can't wait till I go back next.

Pittsburgh Architecture

Pittsburgh has beautiful architecture. The views and photogenic atmosphere of Pittsburgh make it a really easy city to photograph. I was recently in Downtown Pittsburgh and decided to go to one spot particularly to get some different inner city views of the buildings.

My First Protest...

My first protest I have ever covered or been to was last night in Philadelphia. The protestors were speaking out against President-Elect Donald Trump. My interest in photojournalism and travel photography brought me to this protest to cover and capture the moments that happened. The protest began on November 9th, 2016 at 7pm EST and ended approximately around 11pm.
